Ville Pokka and Team Finland took a big step toward avoiding relegation Wednesday by beating Germany 8-0. The Islanders blue line prospect netted a pair of goals in the game, and along with defensive partner Petteri Lindbohm, posted a game-high plus-5 rating on his way to being named Finland's best player.

The Finns held a 1-0 lead after the first period and extended the lead to three goals in the middle frame. In the third, with the score 4-0, Pokka blasted a slap shot from the right circle through traffic to make the score 5-0. Later in the period, he one-timed a feed from the other side past German goaltender Marvin Cupper to make it 7-0.

Finland’s next game will be Jan. 4 when they take on Slovakia.
