Ville Pokka’s Finland squad skated past Slovakia with a convincing 11-4 win Friday, successfully avoiding relegation and guaranteeing a spot in next year’s World Junior Championship. The Islanders second-round draft pick in 2012 recorded a pair of assists in the win.
Finland took a 3-0 lead into the second period, a frame in which they outscored the Slovaks 4-3. Pokka’s helpers came just two minutes apart early in the middle stanza.
Slovakia cut the lead to 7-4 early in the third, but Finland pulled away with four straight tallies down the stretch to secure the victory.
Pokka finishes the tournament with two goals, four assists and a team-leading plus-10 rating in six games.
