Matt Donovan and Brock Nelson each found the scoresheet as Team USA edged Team Kazakhstan 4-3 in overtime Friday morning at the IIHF World Championships in Minsk, Belarus.

Donovan drilled a slap shot past Alexei Ivanov for his first goal of the tournament, which was also his first point. Nelson picked up an assist – his fifth point of the tournament – and was on the ice for three of Team USA’s four goals, including Seth Jones’ OT winner.

Jones scored two goals and added an assist in the preliminary affair, skating into the slot and releasing a wrist shot to push the Americans past the Kazaks at 1:05 of the sudden-death frame. The fourth-overall pick in last year’s draft also deposited his team’s second goal, powering a hard slap shot high-glove side.

Team USA led 3-2 after 40 minutes, but Kazakhstan tied the score with 6:50 to play in the final frame sending the game to OT. The win ended Team USA’s two-game losing streak improving their record to 3-2-0.

Team USA is back in action on Sunday morning, as they take on Team Finland at 9:45 a.m. eastern time.
