The London Knights got out to a 3-0 lead over the Niagara IceDogs in game four of the Rogers OHL Championship Series and held on to win 4-1.
On the brink of elimination, Ryan Strome, Mitchell Theoret and the Niagara IceDogs face London in Game Five on Friday, May 11.
Ryan Rupert opened the scoring for the Knights 3:31 into the first period. Matt Rupert fed a pass to Max Domi who in turn slid it to a streaking Ryan Rupert. Rupert tucked the puck past the outstretched leg of Mark Visentin to take a 1-0 lead.
Vladislav Namestnikov and Austin Watson played give and go in the second period with Namestnikov finishing it off to steak the Knights to a two goal lead 7:47 into the second period. Six minutes later Andreas Athanasiou, playing in his first game of the final, did all the work breaking into the IceDogs zone. Visentin kicked his weak shot out to Chris Tierney who fired it into the back of the net giving the Knights a 3-0 lead.
6:23 into the third period and the IceDogs finally got on the board thanks to Myles Doan's shin. Steven Shipley's shot rebounded out in front of the Knights' net. Doan, tied up with the IceDogs defender had the puck bounce of his shin and into the net cutting the lead to 3-1.
Matt Rupert would respond for the Knights just 56 seconds later. On a two-on-one with his brother Ryan, Matt tried to pass the puck across but hit the IceDogs defender and had Visentin going the other way. Matt Rupert was able to chip his own pass past Visentin to make the final score 4-1.
