2012 IIHF World Championship
Canada Clinches First

CANADA 5, BELARUS 1

Ryan O’Reilly scored twice to lead the way as Canada locked up the top spot in the Helsinki Group at the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship with a 5-1 win over Belarus on Tuesday.

the No. 1 seed ensures it can't face the powerhouse Russians until at least the final - good news given that Russia has knocked Canada out of the tournament the last four years.

Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf each had a goal and an assist while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also scored for Canada (6-0-1).

John Tavares recorded an assist on Nugent-Hopkins' goal in the second period. Tavares then immediatley took a double-minor for roughing, coming to the aid of Nugent-Hopkins in a skirmish after the goal.
