Kabanov, Cataractes Win Memorial Cup Championship

Kirill Kabanov's Shawinigan Cataractes won the Memorial Cup Sunday night, beating the London Knights 2-1 in overtime. The win gives Shawinigan its first ever Memorial Cup. The Cataractes won three elimination in games in four days to take the championship.
London's Ryan Rupert scored the only goal of the first period at 5:42. Austin Watson and Matt Rupert assisted on the tally.
Shawinigan evened the score at 1-1 three minutes into the second frame. Kabanov and Morgan Ellis assisted on Anton Zlobin's fourth goal of the tournament.
Unlike Shawinigan's last two games, the third period was tight, with limited chances. Watson had a chance to put the Knights ahead with just two seconds left in regulation, but could not convert, and the game went into overtime tied at 1-1.
After both teams traded chances in overtime, Zlobin scored the cup-winning goal for Shawinigan at 17:51 of the extra period, giving the Cataractes their first ever Memorial Cup Championship. Kabanov finished the tournament with five points (one goal, four assists ) in six games.
