Niagara boys keep it going

The Niagara IceDogs (Ontario Hockey League) won only one of three games last week, but Islanders prospects Ryan Strome (three goals, five assists), Mitchell Theoret (three goals, three assists) and Jesse Graham (two assists) continued to produce. In a 6-2 loss Wednesday, Nov. 28 at the Belleville Bulls, Theoret posted a goal and an assist, while Strome added a helper. On Friday, Nov. 30, Strome registered four points (one goal, three assists), Theoret lit the lamp twice (including the game-winning power play marker) and Graham earned an assist and a plus-3 rating in a 6-4 victory at the Mississauga Steelheads. The next night, in a 6-5 loss to the Brampton Batallion, Strome scored twice (adding an assist), while Theoret (two assists) and Graham (one assist) also found the score sheet.

Strome leads the OHL in assists (39), points (59) and plus-minus (plus-33), and is on a 14-game assist and point streak (11 goals, 27 assists, 38 points), dating back to Nov. 1. Theoret has points in 13 of the last 14 games (10 goals, 14 assists), and ranks fourth on the team with 32 points (14 goals, 18 assists) this season.

Lee and Russo team up for Fighting Irish

Notre Dame Fighting Irish (Central Collegiate Athletic Association) center Anders Lee and defenseman Robbie Russo each found the score sheet in last weekend’s sweep of Lake Superior State. Lee, coming off CCHA Postgame Offensive Player of the Week honors, scored the game’s first goal and Russo earned two power play helpers in a 3-2 win on Friday, Nov. 30. The Irish won the following night’s rematch 6-1, with another goal from Lee and an assist from Russo. Lee is tied for the conference lead with 10 goals and tied for third with 15 points. Russo is tied for first among CCHA defensemen in goals (four), assists (eight) and points (12).

Koskinen shuts the door

Goaltender Mikko Koskinen won all three of his starts for KalPa Kuopio (SM-liiga) last week, as the club moved to second place in the league standings. The Vantaa, FIN native stopped all 26 shots faced on Friday, Nov. 30 against Ilves Tampere, stopped 20-of-22 shots on Tuesday, Nov. 27 against HPK Hameenlinna, and 21-of-22 on Saturday, Dec. 1 against JYP Jyvaskyla. Koskinen leads the league with a 1.99 goals-against average (minimum 13 games) and is tied for the lead with four shutouts through 26 games.

Odds and ends

Defenseman Brenden Kichton (Spokane Chiefs/Western Hockey League) recorded four assists in two games last week … Defenseman Adam Pelech (Erie Otters/Ontario Hockey League) posted three assists in three games last week … Defenseman Andrey Pedan (Guelph Storm/Ontario Hockey League) scored a goal and an assist in two games last week.
