The New York Islanders announced today that Evgeni Nabokov has agreed to terms on a one-year contract.
Nabokov, 37, started 41-of-48 games this past season with the Islanders, posting a 23-11-7 record with three shutouts, a 2.50 goals-against average (GAA) and .910 save percentage (SV%). The Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan, native’s 23 wins were one shy of the league lead; he climbed to 18th place on the National Hockey League’s all-time wins list.
In 646 career NHL games with San Jose and the Islanders, Nabokov has posted a 335-207-29-47 record (W-L-T-OT), with a 2.41 GAA and .912 SV%. He’s also appeared in 86 career Stanley Cup Playoff games with San Jose and the Islanders, compiling a 42-42 record with a 2.43 GAA and .908 SV%.
On the international stage, Nabokov represented Russia at two Winter Olympic Games (2010 – Vancouver, 2006 – Torino) and two World Championships (2011 – Slovakia, 2008 – Halifax & Quebec City). In 2008, he helped Russia win its first World Championship gold medal since 1993.
