2012-13 season series (1-1-2)
The Islanders and and Rangers met in mid-April in what turned out to be a crucial game toward both teams' playoff positioning. Despite outshooting the Rangers 29-19, the Islanders were unable to find the back of the net, with Matt Carkner and Colin McDonald each hitting the post in regulation. Neither team scored through 60 minutes at a loud, packed Nassau Coliseum, setting the stage for Dan Girardi's goal at 3:11 of overtime. The teams will meet five times in 2013-14, but Tuesday will be the only contest at Nassau Coliseum. They will play three times at Madison Square Garden and once at Yankee Stadium.
