The Isles are back home, as the team held a Sunday practice ahead of a back-to-back set on Monday and Tuesday.
The Islanders host the Flyers tomorrow in the back half of a home-and-home series. After six straight on the road, the Islanders play out the rest of January in New York and on Long Island.
Back in the friendly confines of Islanders Iceworks, here are some news, notes and quotes from Islanders practice.
Lubomir Visnovsky was all smiles in his first practice with the Islanders since suffering a concussion in October.
Visnovsky Practices: Lubomir Visnovsky’s return to practice was the news of the day, as the veteran defenseman skated with the team for the first time since suffering a concussion on Oct. 19. Visnovsky wore a yellow, no-contact jersey and head coach Jack Capuano did not give a timetable for his return.
Lubomir Visnovsky speaks with IslesTV after practice.
Visnovsky on First Practice: I feel like a hockey player right now because when I wake up, my legs are sore, not just my head. My body feels like it did before and it’s a great feeling. I am happy to skate with the guys.
Head coach Jack Capuano briefs the media at Islanders Iceworks on Sunday afternoon.
Capuano on Visnovsky: It was a good day for a lot of reasons. Obviously having Lubo back out there is a breath of fresh air for him. It’s been a long road for him and he’s worked extremely hard to get back out there. We’ll continue to skate him and see how his progress goes.
It’s one of those situations where it’s going to be a little bit. We’ll just continue to skate him.
New Pants: The Islanders practiced in their Stadium Series pants on Sunday, breaking them in for the big game on Jan. 29 at Yankee Stadium.
