CHL Playoff Report

The Oil Kings, Wheat Kings, Otters and Oceanic Advance to the Second Round.

Western Hockey League:

(1) Edmonton Oil Kings vs. (8) Prince Albert Raiders. Oil Kings win series 4-0

Griffin Reinhart and the Edmonton Oil Kings advanced to the second round of the Western Hockey League Playoffs, after sweeping the Price Albert Raiders 4-0. Reinhart had three points (one goal, two assists) and four penalty minutes in the series. The 2012 fourth-overall pick posted a goal and an assist in game three, where the Oil Kings mounted a third-period comeback to take the 4-3 win.

Edmonton will face off against Brandon on Thursday in the second round of the WHL playoffs.

(7) Brandon Wheat Kings vs. (2) Regina Pats. Wheat Kings win series 4-0

Ryan Pulock and the Brandon Wheat Kings swept Kyle Burroughs and the Regina Pats to advance to the second round of the WHL Playoffs. The seventh-seeded Wheat Kings upset the second-seeded Pats, although Brandon did take the season series, suggesting the teams were more evenly matched their ranking. The Wheat Kings scored at least five goals in all four games, outscoring the Pats 24-12. In the series, Pulock tallied two goals, two assists and a plus-five rating. Burroughs had one assist and eight penalty minutes in four games. The Bridgeport Sound Tigers  signed the Islanders seventh-round pick in 2013 to an Amateur Tryout Contract following his team’s elimination.

Brandon will face off against Edmonton on Thursday in the second round of the WHL playoffs.

Ontario Hockey League:

(1) Guelph Storm vs. (8) Plymouth Whalers. Storm win series 4-1

Victor Crus Rydberg and the Plymouth Whalers lost their first-round OHL playoff series 4-1 to the top-seeded Guelph Storm. Crus Rydberg picked up three points (one goal, two assists) in five playoff games including a goal in the Whalers’ lone win of the series. The Bridgeport Sound Tigers signed Burroughs to an Amateur Tryout following the series’ conclusion.

Guelph will face off against London on Friday in the second round of the OHL playoffs.

(3) Erie Otters vs. (6) Saginaw Spirit. Otters win series 4-1

Adam Pelech and the Erie Otters advanced to the second round of the Ontario Hockey League Playoffs for the first time since 2004 after defeating Jesse Graham and the Saginaw Spirit 4-1. Pelech put together a four-game point streak (two goals, two assists) in the first four games of the series. The Otters wrapped up the series with a 3-2 overtime win in game five. Graham finished the series with three assists while Pelech notched a goal in both games three and five.

Erie will face off against Sault Ste. Marie on Wednesday in the second round of the OHL playoffs.

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League:

(4) Rimouski Oceanic vs. (13) Chicoutimi Saguenéens. Oceanic wins series 4-0

Loic Leduc and the Rimouski Oceanic took home the four-game sweep against the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. The Oceanic dominated the 4 vs. 13 series, outscoring the Saguenéens 20-4, while winning the final two games via shutout. Leduc tailed two assists during the first-round series.

Rimouski will face off against Blainville-Boisbriand in the second round of the QMJHL playoffs.
