NYI DRAFT CENTRAL: Colin Wilson

The 2008 draft pool is considered the deepest in years and the Islanders are set to select higher in this year's Entry Draft than they have in the past seven. With the Islanders selecting fifth in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft on Friday, June 20 in Ottawa, many highly-touted prospects will be available for the Isles to choose from. Each week leading up to the draft, Newyorkislanders.com will feature a new player who is likely to go early in this year's draft.

Born: October 20, 1989 in Greenwich, CT (Age 19)
Height: 6-1

Update: Wilson closed out his freshman season at Boston University by recording 12 goals and 23 assists for 35 points in 37 games, finishing third on the team in total points while being named New England Rookie of the Year.

Wilson represented the United States at the 2008 World Junior Championships in the Czech Republic and was named one of Team USA's top three players. His six goals in six games were tied with Kazakhstan's Yevgeni Rymarev for the most in the tournament, and he finished second on the team in total points with seven. Remarkably, Wilson netted his six goals at the WJC on just 15 shot attempts - a 40.0 percent shooting percentage.

Strengths: Considered a two-way forward, Colin is a hard worker that has shown a lot of offensive upside. Wilson's biggest attribute, to go along with his work ethic, has been his smart play.

What They're Saying:

"Colin has a tremendous skill set. The thing about Colin is that he can play a number of roles. He can setup a linemate because he sees the ice really well and can find passing lanes, even if they sometimes don't exist. But recently, he's also been finding the net more himself."

-    NHL Scout

He's a solid two-way player, he fulfills his defensive responsibilities, and he can get the job done."

-    NHL Scout

"He's a tremendous competitor and he has a nice blend of offensive smarts."

-    John Haynes / Head Coach, Team USA

"He combines power and skill. He can play any type of game you want."

-    Matthew Wuest / The Hockey News

"He is above average at every facet of the game. He is fast and is extremely skilled with and without the puck. He can play in all situations and has enormous hockey sense."

-    Thayne Hallyburton/ Bleacher Report
