A look at the top prospects in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft

The 2008 draft pool is considered the deepest in years and the Islanders are set to select higher in this year’s Entry Draft than they have in the past seven. With the Islanders selecting fifth in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft on Friday, June 20 in Ottawa, many highly-touted prospects will be available for the Isles to choose from. Each week leading up to the draft, Newyorkislanders.com will feature a new player who is likely to go early in this year’s draft.

Update: After a 46-point 2006-07 season with the Brampton Battalion - 63 games, 23 goals, 23 assists - Hodgson exploded during the 2007-08 season, registering 40 goals and 45 assists for 85 points in 68 games. He ranked first on his team in goals and 17th in the OHL in points on the season.
In five playoff games this season, Hodgson recorded five goals which led Brampton before being eliminated in the first round. For his efforts during the 2007-08 season, Hodgson was voted as the smartest player in the Eastern Conference in the 2008 OHL coaches poll.
Hodgson represented Canada at the 2008 under-18 World Junior Championships and helped the Canadians earn the gold medal. He led all players at the under-18 WJC with 10 assists (2-10-12) and 12 points in seven games.
Strengths: Known as a very skilled two-way centerman, Hodgson has an excellent shot, quarterbacks the power play and spends time on the penalty kill. He is an extremely smart player that sees the ice well and raises the game of those around him.
