NYI DRAFT CENTRAL: Kyle Beach
By John Hill

The 2008 draft pool is considered the deepest in years and the Islanders are set to select higher in this year's Entry Draft than they have in the past seven. With the Islanders selecting fifth in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft on Friday, June 20 in Ottawa, many highly-touted prospects will be available for the Isles to choose from. Each week leading up to the draft, Newyorkislanders.com will feature a new player who is likely to go early in this year's draft.

Update: After a 61-point 2006-07 season with the Everett Silvertips - 65 games, 29 goals and 32 assists - Beach picked up right where he left off, totaling 60 points in 60 games during the 2007-08 season. He was second overall in goals and third in total points for the Silvertips.
Beach was also the only player in the WHL who averaged both a point per game and over three penalty minutes a game. Other accolades he has received include WHL Rookie of the Year in 2006-2007, and an invitation to the 2008 CHL Top Prospects game.

Strengths: Beach is an aggressive forward. His physical style of play is his defining characteristic, but he also has very good scoring skills, most notably his shot. He has good skills and great tenacity on the ice. His abilities as a playmaker are unquestionable, and he will not shy away from contact.

What They're Saying:

"Kyle Beach is one of the top forwards in this year's draft and is probably the most competitive – from the blue line in there is no one that competes like him. He's feisty, he's got a reputation for being physical and agitating a little bit, but he definitely ranks in there as a power forward and is the power forward in this year's draft. He has good scoring skills and a very accurate shot, and from the blue line in, once he gets the puck, he almost owns it."
-  Blair MacDonald / NHL's Central Scouting

"Kyle is a really unique player, probably the most unique player in the draft this year in the fact that he plays a difficult game and is a difficult player to play against. He's physical, he's strong, he has skill, he has every dimension needed to be a power forward in the National Hockey League."
-  John Becanic / Everett Silvertips Head Coach

"Size, strength, scoring ability and agitation. What more do you need?"
-  Tri-City Herald
