NHL's Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Month is in full swing this October—as teams are hosting Hockey Fights Cancer Nights to help in the struggle against the United States' leading cause of death. On Thursday, the Islanders are playing their part in the fight.

When the Islanders face off against the Dallas Stars at 7 pm at the Nassau Coliseum, the night will be dedicated to raising money to support cancer research and care.

Every Islanders player will use pink tape on their sticks to support cancer awareness, and during the game, fans will be able to bid on the sticks. The auction will end at the conclusion of the second intermission. The highest bidders will receive their sticks at the end of the game.

In addition, the Islanders coaching staff and broadcasters will be supporting the cause, as well, by wearing special Hockey Fights Cancer neckties and pins. Throughout the month, the players have been wearing Hockey Fights Cancer decals on their helmets. Dina, the Islanders in-game hostess and the Ice Girls will sport Hockey Fights Cancer hats, which can be purchased at the merchandise stands. A portion of the proceeds will go towards Hockey Fights Cancer.

Thursday's charity of the game is 1 in 9 Hewlett House: Long Island Breast Cancer Action Coalition, which—along with Cancer Care of Long Island—will have a table set up in the Coliseum concourse.

The support doesn't stop there. The ceremonial puck will be dropped by Geri Barish, the Executive Director of the 1 in 9 Hewlett House, while the National Anthem will be sung by Jerry Mowery, who lost his wife to cancer. Rafaelo Carrone, 8, will serve as the game's stick kid of the game. His leukemia went into remission last year.

So come out on Thursday to support not only the Islanders, but a wonderful cause.
