The Islanders have re-signed defenseman Radek Martinek to a one-year contract.
"We are glad to have Radek back," said Milbury. "He is a very steady defenseman just hitting his prime, a player we believe is one of the more underrated blueliners in the game."
Martinek, 28, collected seven points (4+3) and 43 penalty minutes in 47 games with the Islanders in 2003-04. In five playoff games, he recorded one assist.
The 6-1, 213-pound native of Havlicko, Czech Republic has appeared in 136 career games with the Islanders, recording 25 points (7+18) and 85 penalty minutes. In nine career playoff games, he has recorded one assist and four penalty minutes.
In five seasons (1996-2001) with Ceske Budejovice (Czech League), Martinek recorded 83 points (30+53) in 235 games.
He was selected by the Islanders' in the eighth round (228th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
