ISLANDERS SIGN TRAVIS BRIGLEY
The Islanders have signed free agent left wing Travis Brigley to a one-year contract.
Brigley, 28, will enter his ninth season of professional hockey in 2005-06 and has posted three goals, six assists, nine points and 16 penalty minutes in 55 NHL games with the Calgary Flames and Colorado Avalanche. The 6-1, 200-pound wing from Coronation, Alberta notched eight goals, 11 assists, 19 points and 43 penalty minutes in 21 games with Valerenga IF Oslo in Norway last season. Brigley had three goals, four assists, seven points and ten penalty minutes in 36 games with Colorado, as well as six goals, six assists, 12 points and eight penalty minutes in 18 games with the AHL's Hershey Bears in 2003-04.
Brigley was Calgary's second pick, 39th overall, in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. After playing parts of four seasons (1993-97) of major junior with the WHL's Lethbridge Hurricanes, he has also skated for the Saint John Flames, Philadelphia Phantoms, Louisville Panthers and Cincinnati Mighty Ducks in the AHL, as well as in the IHL, ECHL and UHL, and in Britain. All told, Brigley's professional career has spanned 520 games.
