DAY 1 FROM YARMOUTH: A.M. Report
By Kerry Gwydir

It was a late night for Mark Parrish, who had to fly from Minneapolis to Toronto and then connect to Halifax Monday night. By the time the Islanders' right wing had reached Yarmouth (FYI, it's an almost three-hour ride from Halifax), it was 5 a.m. local time. Still, after agreeing to a contract yesterday, Parrish will be on the ice this morning as the Islanders open training camp in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

The first day of camp will feature a scrimmage right off the bat, as Team A will faceoff against Team B (see rosters below).  Players will participate in three groups on Day 1, with Team A arriving first and hitting the ice at 9 a.m. They will be joined at 10 a.m. for a 45-minute with Team B. Once that scrimmage ends, Team B will complete their on-ice session while Team A heads with Strength and Conditioning Coach Garrett Timms for an off-ice workout.

By noontime, Team C, a non-scrimmaging group, will arrive and head on the ice for their training session. At that same time, Timms will take Team B through an off-ice lifting session. By 2 p.m., Team C will join Timms for an off-ice session of their own, thus completing the club's hockey activities of the day.

Once the players and staff are done with their duties, there's no doubt that they will indulge in the many activities away-from-the-rink that this beautiful ocean town offers. From scenic golf courses to bass and shark fishing to whale and seal watching, the Islanders will sure have the opportunity to experience the best this quaint and scenic town has to offer.

Be sure to check back later for Chris Botta and Jim Morlock's afternoon training camp report.
