WEDNESDAY\'S SCRIMMAGE REPORT
Kvasha line leads Team B to 4-2 win

YARMOUTH, Nova Scotia Oleg Kvasha and Mike York each recorded a goal and two assists to lead Team B (Blue team) to a 4-2 win over Team C (White team) in a scrimmage on Day 2 of Training Camp at the Mariners Centre in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

The Blue squad, which never trailed in the scrimmage, jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Kvasha.  The goal was set-up by Janne Niinimaa, who found Kvasha all alone in the neutral zone for a breakaway.  Niinimaa's pass was right on the money as the speedy forward took the pass and came skating down on goaltender Garth Snow.  Kvasha tried to beat Snow low to the corner, but the veteran goaltender made a diving a stab with his blocker and stopped the shot. Kvasha got the loose rebound in front and knocked it in for the goal.

A few minutes later, the Blue squad increased its lead to 3-0 with a pair of goals less than a minute apart.  The top line of Mike York-Kvasha-Mattias Weinhandl set up both goals as York tapped in a pass from Kvasha and then Niinimaa roofed home a rebound off of a Kvasha shot.

The White team answered right back a little over a minute later as Miroslav Satan scored to cut the lead to 3-1.  Satan stripped the puck away from rookie defenseman Tomi Pettinen in the defensive zone and skated in on Chris Madden down the left side. Satan snapped a wrist shot past Madden inside the far post for the goal.

The White team made it interesting as Matt Koalska scored to cut the lead to 3-2.  On a 2-on-1 break, rookie defenseman Mike Jarmuth found Koalska in the right slot and he buried the shot under the cross-bar past Wade Dubielewicz.

Robert Nilsson put the game out of reach as he scored on a breakaway to give the Blue squad a 4-2 lead.  Nilsson took a pass from Mark Parrish just inside the blue line and skated in on Madden.  Nilsson came flying through the zone and had the puck on his forehand side. But once the talented rookie faked Madden out, he quickly switched over the back-hand and slipped home the shot.

Notes:  2004 second round pick Blake Comeau continues to earn praise playing on the first line with center Alexei Yashin and right winger Miroslav Satan. Comeau is feeling right at home, sort of. Turns out his dad was borned and raised in Yarmouth and his Uncle John Comeau is a Yarmouth Family Court Judge ... Yashin and Satan have shown early signs of being a potent combination. Both set up each other and had numerous scoring chances in the scrimmage... Tonight, watch News 12 Long Island for a feature on new veterans Satan, York, Brent Sopel, Alexei Zhitnik and Brad Lukowich. Tomorrow's feature is expected to be on the rookies battling for NHL jobs. Later in the week, News 12 has a fun piece with Bruno Gervais and Jeremy Colliton on The Cat, the high-speed ferry from Yarmouth to Maine.
