PROSPECTS COMEAU & KOHN NAMED TO TEAM WHL
Islanders prospects Blake Comeau and Dustin Kohn have been named to Team WHL for the 2005 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge held in Regina, Saskatchewan. The annual competition sees the best of each of the CHL's three leagues face off against the top junior stars from Russia. Former Islander Brent Sutter (Red Dear Rebels) will coach Team WHL in the competition.
Both youngsters have been impressive so far this fall. Comeau is currently second in scoring in the WHL with 26 points off nine goals and 17 assists in 15 games for the first-place Kelowna Rockets. Comeau tallied five points and factored in each Kelowna goal in their 5-3 win on Sunday versus the Spokane Chiefs. The right wing finished that game with two goals, three assists and a +3 plus/minus rating.
Kohn has been steady on the blue line and has posted a goal and three assists with a +2 plus/minus rating for the first-place Calgary Hitmen. He recorded his first goal of the season in a 2-1 shootout win over Medicine Hat on Sunday.
Comeau was the Islanders' second round pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, while Kohn was the team's second round pick in 2005. Both players attended training camp with the Islanders this past September and impressed the coaches with their skill and hard work.
