Islanders forward Alexei Yashin was named the H.L. Gross & Brothers Jewelers Player of the Month for October. Leading the Islanders with seven goals and eight assists in 11 October games, the captain was selected in a balloting of fans at the Coliseum during home games.

During a pre-game on-ice ceremony last night, Yashin received a beautiful Tag Heuer Watch from Brad Gross, Vice President of H.L. Gross & Brothers Jewelers of Garden City. Alexei was joined on the ice by Ken Semder of Freeport, the lucky fan whose name was picked from the voting ballots.  Ken also won a Tag Heuer Watch courtesy of H.L. Gross & Brothers Jewelers.
