First of two stages of surgery completed

Islanders center Kevin Colley is recovering this afternoon after successful surgery at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. In a four-hour procedure this morning, Dr. Andrew Hecht and Dr. Arthur Jenkins decompressed Colley's spinal cord and stabilized his spine from the front. In a second procedure that will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 7, additional stabilization will be performed by the doctors.
