GAME PREVIEW: Montreal at Islanders

Garth Snow will be in net tonight as the Islanders return from Olympic Break with a crucial showdown against the eight-place Montreal Canadiens tonight at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

"Garth has had an excellent week of practices, he's been sharp and he's ready to go," Islanders head coach Brad Shaw said after today's morning skate at the Coliseum. "We have complete confidence in him."

With 26 games to go, the Islanders know they are in position to turn around what has so far been a disappointing season. "Nobody is kidding themselves -- we have not had a good season," said forward jason Blake. "But the good news is we have a chance over the next few weeks to turn it around and get in the playoffs. We have the team to get it done. We have to get going."

The Islanders went into the Olympic Break coming off a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils. Alexei Yashin turned in a two-point with a goal and an assists and Rick DiPietro turned away 26 of 27 shots on goal by the Devils. Jason Blake also scored for the Islanders, while Oleg Kvasha, Radek Martinek and Mike York recorded the other assists.

INJURY REPORT
- Center Petteri Nokelainen (patella tendonitis) has missed the last 43 games. He's currently on the Injured Reserve retroactive of Nov. 3, 2005.

RECENT 2005-06 TRANSACTIONS
- February 23 -- Recalled defenseman Joel Bouchard and forwards Robert Nilsson and Wyatt Smith to Bridgeport (AHL).

Tonight's game is the 122nd regular season meeting and 144th meeting all-time between the Islanders and the Montreal Canadiens. Coming into tonight's game, Trent Hunter is third in the league in hits with 161, while Arron Asham is fifth with 154. Brad Lukowich is third on the team and leads Islanders defensemen with 108. As a team, the Islanders have unloaded 1,077 hits against their opponents this season. In the Islanders last game on Saturday, Feb. 11 at New Jersey, Chris Campoli, Brad Lukowich and Radek Martinek each had a team-high two hits.

On Feb. 4, the Islanders recorded a season-high 33 hits versus the Rangers. Hunter led the way with a team and personal season-high nine hits.

ISLANDERS IN FEBRUARY

In the second game, Mark Parrish scored at the 2:15 mark of the extra session to give the Islanders a 4-3 victory over the Florida Panthers on Jan. 4 at the Coliseum. In the third, Oleg Kvasha scored at the 3:02 mark of the extra session to the give the Islanders a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Jan. 17 at the United Center.

The Islanders are 8-4 in overtime/shootout (three overtime victories, five shootout victories, one overtime loss and three shootout losses) this season.
