GAME PREVIEW: Islanders at Atlanta

*TV ALERT* FSN 2 IS NOW Ch. 14 ON LI... Read on for a full list of FSN 2 channels¦ The red hot New York Islanders are in Hot-lanta tonight as they faceoff against the Thrashers. The Islanders are on a season-high four-game winning streak after an impressive outing two nights ago in New Jersey. 
 
Rookies Jeremy Colliton and Bruno Gervais will be in the Islanders' lineup tonight after being recalled from Bridgeport. They'll replace the injured Arron Asham and Alexei Zhitnik, respectively. There will be a total of seven rookies in the Islanders' lineup tonight, including: Sean Bergenheim, Colliton, Chris Campoli, Gervais, Dennis Grebeshkov, Robert Nilsson and Jeff Tambellini.

The Islanders turned in one of their most complete efforts as they defeated the New Jersey Devils 6-1 on Tuesday night. It was the second game of their five-game road swing. Alexei Yashin led the way with two goals and an assist while Sean Bergenheim also turned in a three-point night with a goal and two assists. Rookie Jeff Tambellini netted his first NHL goal/point in the game and John Erskine scored his first goal as an Islander. Shawn Bates scored the other goal for the Islanders. Rick DiPietro 16 saves on 17 shots for the victory in net.

ZHITNIK DONE FOR YEAR, ASHAM OUT 4-6 WEEKS
The Islanders absorbed two major blows to their playoff push during their 6-1 win over the Devils on Tuesday night. No. 1 defenseman Alexei Zhitnik suffered a fractured ankle that will sideline him for the remainder of the season. Forward Arron Asham suffered a high ankle sprain and will be lost to the Islanders for 4-6 weeks.

Rookie Bruno Gervais has been recalled from Bridgeport (AHL) to join the Islanders' blueline for game tonight in Atlanta. Rookie forward Jeremy Colliton has also been recalled from the Sound Tigers.

DIPIETRO NAMED DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Islanders' goaltender Rick DiPietro has been named the NHL's Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 12. He led the Islanders to three victories with a 0.95 goals-against average and .966 save percentage.

DiPietro began the week by making 30 saves in a 2-1 shootout victory over the New Jersey Devils March 7. He turned aside 22 shots in a 2-1 shootout win over the Toronto Maple Leafs March 10 and finished the week by making 32 saves in a 3-1 victory over the Boston Bruins on March 11.

DP SETS PERSONAL MARK WITH 24TH WIN
Rick DiPietro set a new personal season-high by recording his 24th victory on March 11 at Boston. His previous season-high was 23, which he recorded in the 2003-04 season.

He currently has 25 wins on the season. The Islanders' record for most victories by a goaltender his 32, co-held by Billy Smith (1981-82) and Chris Osgood (2001-02). On the season, DiPietro is 25-17-3 and he is currently on a personal six-game winning streak.

GOING BACK-TO-BACK
The Islanders begin their seventh back-to-back series of the season, and third this month, tonight at Atlanta. Tomorrow night they faceoff against the Florida Panthers in Sunrise, FL. The team has five back-to-back series all together in March. The Islanders are will play 11 sets of back-to-back games during the 2005-06 regular season.

In their last back-to-back series, the Islanders defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 on March 10 and the Boston Bruins 3-1 on March 11.
