SERIES NOW TIED AT TWO
Penguins 1, Sound Tigers 0

By Corey Witt

Dany Sabourin and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins shutout the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 1-0 on Tuesday night at the Arena at Harbor Yard.  The best-of-five Eastern Conference Semifinal is now tied at two games apiece. With the Sound Tigers loss tonight, the series will go at least to Game Six, which will take place here at Bridgeport.

Maxime Talbot was credited with the Penguins lone goal. On replay it appeared that Jeff Tambellini accidentally put the puck into his own net on the Wilkes-Barre score. Jonathan Filewich and Ryan Stone got the assists on the play. The score came with 44.7 seconds left in the second period.

You got to tip your hat to the Penguins tonight. They did all the hard things that wins playoff games, said Sound Tigers head coach Dave Baseggio. Its playoff hockey. You never know what tricky bounce is going to make a difference.

The play was up-and-down for most of the game with both teams fore-checking well and getting quality scoring chances on net. The fact the game-winning tally was an own-goal was ironic considering the fast pace of the game and the solid play of both goaltenders. Sabourin finished with 33 saves while Bridgeports Wade Dubielewicz made 24 in the losing effort.

This one hurts, but you never expected this to be easy, said goaltender Wade Dubielewicz. Theyre a first place, championship caliber team. The series is tied now and now we have go out and win Game Five.

The Sound Tigers had trouble getting started and appeared sluggish at times. One possible reason could be that the team was forced to kill off penalties at the beginning of both the first and seconds periods. They were able to kill off both, but were delayed in getting an opportunity to get into a rhythm.

The Sound Tigers best scoring chance came right after they killed off their early first period penalty. Robert Nilsson started the play with a pass from behind the net to Jeremy Colliton, who got stoned with a quick one-timer in front of the net. The shot was tagged for Pens goalie Dany Sabourins five-hole. But he closed his pads just in time to save the goal.

Bridgeport also had a crucial five-on-three power play midway through in the second period with two Penguins in the box. They were able to make dozens of quality passes, but couldnt find good shooting lanes. Wilkes-Barre killed off the five-on-three and the following five-on-four by getting into the passing and shooting lanes and frustrating the Sound Tigers attackers.

At the end of the game, Bridgeport pulled Dubielewicz for an extra attacker, but Wilkes-Barre gave up the body to block passes and shots to preserve the win.
