SIMS AND JOHANSSON PICKED
Neil Smith and Co. were busy again in the fifth round selecting American defenseman Shane Sims and Swedish born center Kim Johansson.

Sims became the first defenseman the Islanders chose in this year's NHL Draft.
"Shane is a smooth skating two-way defenseman with a good shot," said Isles scout Jay Heinbuck. "Sims was a steal for a fifth round pick."
Sims has one more year left with Des Moines of the USHL, after which he'll join Ohio State in the fall of 2007.

The Islanders hockey ops department went back to Sweden to find their final fifth round pick, selecting center/winger Kim Johansson of Malmo of the Swedish Junior Elite League.
"Johansson is very good skater," said former Islanders player and current scout Anders Kallur. "He has good hockey sense and is a fine playmaker.
The Islanders were most impressed with his play at the World Junior Championship in April. They also liked the fact that he was much improved this past year.
