A NIGHT FOR BOB BOURNE
First NYI Hall of Fame Night set for Nov. 25

The New York Islanders will honor former all-star wing and dynasty member Bob Bourne when the franchise hosts its first Hall of Fame Night on November 25 at 7:00, prior to the Islanders game against the Washington Capitals.

Bourne was a vital member of all four Stanley Cup teams. For the Islanders, he ranks on the top ten lists of six categories: games played, goals, assists, points, game-winning goals and shorthanded goals. He is sixth in all-time playoff scoring for the Islanders, with 38-54-92 in 129 postseason games.

"Bob Bourne is one of the all-time great Islanders," said team Senior Vice President Mike Milbury. "When you look at his body of work during twelve amazing years on Long Island, Bob is very deserving of this honor. We're looking forward to putting together an event that Bob, his family and Islander fans will never forget."

Bourne will be joined by his family and several of his former Islanders teammates during a pre-game ceremony at 7:00 pm before the 2006-07 Islanders take on Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals.

A banner honoring all members of the Islanders Hall of Fame will hang permanently in the rafters of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Bourne's name will be unveiled on the banner on Nov. 25, joining the automatic inductees that have had their numbers retired by the Islanders: Denis Potvin, Mike Bossy, Billy Smith, Bryan Trottier, Clark Gillies, Bob Nystrom, Bill Torrey and Al Arbour.

In addition, a banner commemorating Bourne's induction into the Islanders Hall of Fame will hang for the duration of the 2006-07 season. There will be an Islanders Hall of Fame section on newyorkislanders.com highlighting the careers of all nine members.

The Islanders are also looking into creating a space on the Coliseum plaza that will become The Walk of Champions, honoring the members of the Islanders Hall of Fame.

Acquired by the Islanders from Kansas City on July 1, 1974 for Bart Crashley, Bourne is the eighth-leading scorer in franchise history, with 238 goals and 304 assists for 542 points in 814 regular season games from 1974 - 1986.

"My great friend and teammate Bournie is so worthy of a night like this," said Islanders legend Bryan Trottier, now the team's Executive Director of Player Development. "Bournie did everything for our team. I wouldn't miss this event for the world."

Bourne represented the Islanders, along with Mike Bossy and Denis Potvin, at the 1981 NHL All-Star Game.

"I'm just blown away by this honor presented to me by Charles Wang and the rest of the Islanders organization," said Bourne. "Long Island has always been my second home, Long Islanders a part of my extended family. I cannot wait until Nov. 25 to see the fans and my teammates. It's going to be an unforgettable night."

Tickets for Islanders Hall of Fame Night will be available when first-half tickets go on sale in mid-September. Stay tuned to newyorkislanders.com for ticket and event information.
