BENCHMARKS WITH ASSISTANT COACH DANNY FLYNN
Flynn remarks on the first Blue-White Game and previews Day Four

(Yarmouth, Nova Scotia) "It was certainly nice to see a full house here in Yarmouth at the game. It brings out the best in players. We're starting to learn more about the players every day. It's a whole new coaching staff and there are a lot of new people here. It's preparation time for the players and evaluation time for the coaches. Each time we see them play we learn more about them and see how the team is going to fit together.

"I thought Jeff Tambellini had a real good day. I thought Miroslav Satan has been solid for us every night. I thought Viktor Kozlov had a real good day. There were lots of positives, but those three guys caught my eye.

"On the prospect side, I thought Mike Mole had a good day today. Jason Pitton worked hard and caught our eye. We're seeing positives from lots of players. Hopefully, when we see more players and play against other teams we'll get a better idea of how the team will come together.

"Teddy's philosophy is that he wants players who want to compete hard and play with lots of grit and lots of energy and play with intelligence. Tomorrow at the next round of scrimmages we'll be looking for players who work hard and want to compete. That's going to be the starting point of this team."

 

Danny Flynn's Bio

Danny Flynn joined Ted Nolan as an assistant coach with the New York Islanders on July 13, 2006.
Flynn was hired Nolan's assistants with Memorial Cup finalist Moncton. Flynn has been a mainstay on Nolan's coaching staff going back to their days with the Sault. Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the early 1990s. Following Nolan's departure from the Greyhounds to the NHL, Flynn took over the reigns of the OHL team for the 1994-95 season. Together,
Nolan and Flynn won three straight OHL championships and a Memorial Cup title with the Greyhounds. Before rejoining with Nolan in Moncton last season, Flynn was the head coach for St. Francis Xavier University from 1995 to 2005 and led the school to a 19-6-3 record in 2004-05, his last with the school.
During Flynn's ten-year tenure at St. FX, he led them to a Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) national championship in 2004 -- the first in the school's history -- and won two silver medals at the national championship in 2001 and 2003. In total, he recorded a total of 177 career wins at StFX making him the all-time winningest coach behind the X-Men bench, and third in AUS history.
