TONIGHT IN MONCTON
By Jason Lockhart
Islanders hockey is back!
Tonight the Islanders play their first preseason game of the 2006-07 season and face the Boston Bruins at 6:30 pm EST in Moncton, New Brunswick at the Moncton Coliseum.
Ted Nolan will be making his return to the home of his former team, the Moncton Wildcats, who he led to the Memorial Cup championship game and with whom he won a Quebec Major Junior Championship last season. Tonight the arena will celebrate "Ted Nolan Night."
"It's going to be nice returning here. It will be a little emotional, but it will be good emotions," said Nolan. "There have been jitters. It's good to have nervousness. If there's not than there's something wrong. Once we get in two or three shifts I'll be right back in it; just like riding a bike."
A number of players will be making their Islanders debuts including defensemen Sean Hill, Tom Poti, 2006 draft pick Andrew MacDonald, forwards Andy Hilbert, Richard Park and 2002 draft pick Frans Nielsen.
MacDonald, who played under Nolan in Moncton last season, was a late addition to the Moncton-Halifax trip.
The Bruins will play in their fourth preseason game of the year falling to New Jersey 5-0 in their opener, but following up the loss with back-to-back wins against Montreal, 5-2 and 3-1.
This will be the second NHL preseason game played at the Moncton Coliseum with Pittsburgh and Philadelphia having already faced-off Wednesday night.
