TAMPA BAY 5, ISLANDERS 1
Lightning strike Islanders for three power play goals

Official Scoresheet | Official Super Stats

Four unanswered goals in the final two periods, including three on the power play gave the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning a 5-1 victory over the Islanders on Monday night at the Coliseum. The Islanders drop to 6-6-2 as they continue the season on the road for the next five games.

Tampa Bay went up 1-0 when Ruslan Fedotenko fed a perfect pass to Andreas Karlsson, who slammed home a one-timer right in front of the net with 7:34 left in the period.

With just 55.5 seconds remaining in the period, Alexei Zhitnik's floater from the point got through a sea of players and tipped off goaltender Johan Holmqvist's glove before going into the net to tie the score at one. Chris Simon and Mike York earned the assist on Zhitnik's second goal of the season.

The Lightning capitalized on the power play to make it 2-1. Eric Perrin passed the puck across to Martin St. Louis, planted at the top of the right circle. St. Louis blasted a one-timer high past Mike Dunham with 7:22 left in the second period for his team leading 11th goal.

Tampa Bay got their second power play goal with another bang-bang play with 2:32 remaining in the second period. Vaclav Prospal threw it in front to Filip Kuba, who skated down low from the point and slammed it home to make it 3-1 for his first goal of the season.

Kuba put the Lightning up 4-1 with his second goal of the game and of the season tapping in a St. Louis cross-crease feed on the power play with 7:05 remaining in the game. It was 5-1 when Perrin knocked in his own rebound on a 2-on-1 with 4:28 left.

Quotes:
Ted Nolan:
"We just didn't execute what we wanted to tonight. The most frustrating part about tonight was that we seemed to quit. We're going to address that before it gets too bad."

Mike Sillinger: "We didn't get a lot of second chances tonight. We need to concentrate on crashing the net more to create those second and third opportunities."

Five Stars of the Game:
1. Filip Kuba: Scored his first two goals of the season
2. Martin St. Louis: Tallied team-leading 11th goal on the power play and an assist
3. Johan Holmqvist: Stopped 25 of 26 shots for the win
4. Eric Perrin: One goal and one assist
5. Cory Sarich: Three hits and five blocked shots

Stat of the Game: Tampa Bay was 3 for 5 on the power play.

Fans of the Game: The Cosmo family from Bethpage is more than halfway through their goal of visiting all 30 NHL arenas this year, already having visited 19 of them so far. The Cosmos are a hockey family and have all been die-hard Islanders fans from Day One. After watching a game in Dallas, they were inspired to go for all 30 arenas before the season ended. They'll travel to Florida to watch the Islanders take on Tampa Bay as they continue their mission. Good Luck Cosmo Family!

Slapshots: New York Jets punter Ben Graham attended his first-ever NHL game, tonight at the Coliseum. "My daughters are big fans of the game and I'm loving every minute of it," said Graham, a native of Australia. "The Islanders have treated me first-class tonight and I hope to come back to more games in the future."...Tampa Bay's Martin St. Louis and Eric Perrin played on the same line together at the University of Vermont...Tonight's attendance was 9,693.

Game Operations: Nicole Carle from Holtsville performed her figure skating routine during the first and second intermission to the tune of "Popular" from the musical Wicked. Her performance was beautifully done as she spun and jumped her away around the Coliseum ice. "It was pretty exciting to skate on the Coliseum ice because I've seen concerts here," said Nicole, age 11. "I was slightly nervous before going on." Her nerves certainly didn't show.
