GAME PREVIEW
Islanders (10-7-3) vs. Pittsburgh (10-7-3)

(2:00 p.m. ET, TV: FSN NY | Radio: Bloomberg 1130) On the day after Thanksgiving, the Islanders take on the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Nassau Coliseum, in a matchup of division rivals with identical records.

The Islanders returned home on Wednesday, following a five-game road trip, and in their most dominating performance of the year, took care of business against the defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes did not register a shot on goal until the final two minutes of the first period, ultimately being out-shot 20-1 in the first period and 48-15 in the game. The one shot against in the period tied an Islanders franchise record, achieved on eight other occasions.

Shawn Bates staked the Islanders to a 1-0 lead, early in the first period off a 2-on-1 feed from Richard Park. The Islanders struck again in the third on goals by Jason Blake, Alexei Yashin and Miroslav Satan. The Islanders eventually won 4-2, raising their record to 10-7-3.

Blake and Yashin have now earned eight and nine points, respectively, in their past six games. Rick DiPietro has played well in his last nine starts, going 6-2-1 with a 2.18 goals average and a .919 save percentage in that span.

The Penguins sport the same record of 10-7-3, but may be without their star forward, Sidney Crosby, who sat out Wednesday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Boston Bruins, with a groin pull. Crosby's 30 points places him tied for fourth in league scoring.

After scoring in his first six NHL games, Evgeni Malkin is showing why he was considered the best player not in the NHL last season. Malkin is currently second on the Penguins in scoring with 20 points and his ten goals are tied for the team lead with Crosby.

Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury is playing the best hockey of his young NHL career, compiling a record of 10-5-2 so far this season.

Chris King and Steve Mears have the call on Bloomberg Radio 1130, while Howie Rose and Billy Jaffe can be seen tonight on FSN NY.
