OTTAWA 4, ISLANDERS 2
Heatley and Spezza lead Sens to fourth consecutive win

Official Scoresheet | Official Super Stats

Dany Heatley scored two goals and Jason Spezza had three points to help the Ottawa Senators skate past the Islanders Tuesday night at the Nassau Coliseum by the score of 4-2. Martin Gerber stopped 24 shots for the victory. The Senators have now won four games in a row and eight out of their last nine.

Heatley put the Senators up 1-0, 4:32 into the game. Spezza gathered his own blocked shot and fed Heatley for his 17th goal of the season.

Spezza scored the Senators' second goal of the game with 1:33 remaining in the first period. While on the power play, Spezza blasted a slap shot from the top of the circles for his 13th of the season.

In the second period, Andy Hilbert traded goals with Joe Corvo.

Hilbert scored his first goal as an Islander to cut the lead to 2-1. Hilbert gathered in a loose puck and backhanded it over Gerber with 9:38 gone by in the second period.

The Senators made it 3-1 with another power play goal with 49.4 seconds remaining in the second period. Daniel Alfredsson fed Corvo for a back-door one-timer.

Some hard work paid off for the Islanders to get within one, 6:42 into the third period. Jason Blake battled to get the puck behind the net to Bruno Gervais. After walking behind the net, Gervais threw it in front to Blake, who stuffed it past Gerber for his 15th goal of the season.

With 7:50 left in the third period, Heatley scored his second goal of game on a brilliant individual effort to make it 4-2.

Quotes:
Mike Sillinger: "We can't fall into the system of winning a game, losing a game, winning a game. If we're going to stay at the top of our division we're going to have to compete every night."

Andy Hilbert: "They're a good team with some great skilled players. We just didn't have our best game tonight. With guys out of the lineup we need to pick up the slack and hopefully we can turn it around against Montreal on Thursday."

Jason Blake: "They came out harder than we did and out-shot us in the first period. They competed for pucks harder than we did. They capitalized on our chances and we didn't."

Five Stars of the Game:
1. Dany Heatley: Two goals
2. Jason Spezza: A goal and two assists
3. Andy Hilbert: Scored first goal as an Islander
4. Joe Corvo: Scored the game-winner and an assist
5. Bruno Gervais: An assist and a +1 rating

Stat of the Game: Andy Hilbert scored his first goal since notching one against the Islanders on April 17, 2006 at the Nassau Coliseum

Fans of the Game: Mario Tullo and her two children Karissa and Matthew had the opportunity to watch tonight's game in the comfort of a suite. "These are some good seats up here," said Karissa. "It's a special place to watch a game." As an employee of Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Maria explained how useful it is to be in a suite because it gives her a chance to "network with business partners."

Slapshots: Viktor Kozlov extended his points streak to five games (7g, 3a)...Wade Dubielewicz was recalled on an emergency basis to back-up Mike Dunham with Rick DiPietro listed as day-to-day with a lower body injury...Tonight's attendance was 8,741

Game Operations: Alexa Roland, age 12, performed her figure skating routine beautifully between the first and second periods. She has already been skating for five years and practices at Islanders Iceworks. Alexa said it took her only two weeks to rehearse for tonight's skate, but she sure fooled us with a flawless performance.
