GAME PREVIEW
Islanders (15-11-3) at Pittsburgh (14-11-5)

(7:30 p.m. ET, TV: FSN NY | Radio: Bloomberg 1130) It's round five of the Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins matchup, tonight at the Mellon Arena.

For the second time this year, the Islanders and Penguins face each other tied for third in the Atlantic Division standings. The first time, coming on November 24 when the Islanders won at home by the score of 3-1. Since then, the Islanders have played one less game, but both have accumulated 33 total points. The Islanders currently sit in the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference tied with four other teams: Pittsburgh, Washington, Toronto and Ottawa.

The Isles are coming off one of their longest breaks of the season, not having played since Saturday. But as head coach Ted Nolan indicated in practice yesterday, the team is ready to go mentally and physically.

"We've had a few days to re-energize and re-focus, so we're ready to go," said Nolan. "Pittsburgh has gained some confidence having won the last three games, but so have we, so it should be a fun one tomorrow."

Jason Blake took over the team lead in scoring with an assist in the most recent game against Florida, a 5-4 shootout win. He now has 30 points in 29 games, including 15 goals.

On Saturday, the Islanders needed a shootout to once again surpass the Panthers. In the extra session, Miroslav Satan and Viktor Kozlov both demonstrated why they were two of the best shootout specialists last season, by scoring on wrist shots past Alexander Auld. Rick DiPietro was equally stellar in goal, stopping Ville Peltonen and Rotislav Olesz. DiPietro has allowed only two goals on 19 attempts and sports a 2-1 record in the shootouts.

Pittsburgh is currently on one of its more impressive stretches of the season having won their last three games. On Monday, they overcame a four-goal deficit in the second period to knock off Washington 5-4 in a shootout. They followed up that win with another WIN against Philadelphia, by the score of 8-4. In that game, Sidney Crosby broke his single-game record by tallying six points, one goal and five assists. The six points boosted Crosby's point total to 47, which currently leads the league.

Marc-Andre Fleury has been in goal for all 14 Penguins wins this season with a record of 14-7-4.

Chris King and Steve Mears have the call on Bloomberg Radio 1130, while Howie Rose and Billy Jaffe can be seen tonight on FSN NY.
