GAME PREVIEW
Islanders (19-13-3) vs. Ottawa (18-18-1)

(7:30 p.m. ET, TV: FSN NY | Radio: Bloomberg 1130) A win tonight by the Islanders against the Ottawa Senators at the Scotiabank Place would put them in a tie with the New Jersey Devils atop the Atlantic Division standings.

The Islanders got to this position by exciting the Nassau Coliseum crowd last night by defeating the Rangers for the third time this season. Rick DiPietro's second shutout in a row and third consecutive at home coupled with goals by Arron Asham and Jason Blake, gave the Islanders a 2-0 win over their Atlantic division rivals. The win allowed the Islanders to leap-frog the Rangers in the standings. The Islanders now have 41 points, to the Ranger's 40.

DiPietro now has played 185:43 of consecutive shutout hockey at home. Last night's shutout was his fourth of the season and the tenth of his career.

Blake continues to shine, notching his 21st goal of the season. He is now tied for fifth in the league in goals and only four behind the leader, Alexander Ovechkin. Blake is currently on a four-game point streak.

The last time the Islanders faced the Senators was immediately following another victory against the Rangers. At the time, Ottawa was rolling, having won seven of eight games. Since defeating the Islanders on December 5, 4-2, at the Nassau Coliseum, the Senators have gone 3-6-0, and have dropped to last place in the Northeast Division.

After losing three of four games, Ottawa bounced back on Saturday, topping the Philadelphia Flyers 6-3. Captain Daniel Alfredsson helped on the score sheet with two goals and one assist in the victory.

Offensively, the big guns, Alfredsson, Jason Spezza and Dany Heatley lead the way and Ray Emery is still seeing a significant ice time in goal, despite initially being pegged as the back-up.

Chris King and Steve Mears have the call on Bloomberg Radio 1130, while Howie Rose and Billy Jaffe can be seen tonight on FSN NY.
