GAME PREVIEW
Islanders (19-17-3) at New Jersey (22-13-4)

(7:30 p.m. ET, TV: FSN NY 2 | Radio: Bloomberg 1130) To stop their four-game losing streak, the Islanders will have to take down the Atlantic Division-leading New Jersey Devils, Thursday night at the Continental Airlines Arena.

This is the first of four consecutive games on the road for the Islanders. After taking on the Devils, the Islanders visit Carolina, the Rangers and Boston, before returning home to play New Jersey on Saturday, January 13.

Despite the loss on Tuesday to the Philadelphia Flyers, the Islanders showed some fight, scoring two goals in 33 seconds to get within one in the final three minutes of the game. Jason Blake recorded his 23rd goal of the season and Mike Sillinger scored his 11th of the season. Blake now has 40 points and is on pace to eclipse his previous high of 57, set during the 2005-06 season.

The Islanders have a daunting task, trying to top the Devils in New Jersey, where they are an impressive 13-3-3. One of those three losses came against the Islanders back on November 2.

The Devils have been successful because of the strong play from veteran goaltender Martin Brodeur and their stingy defense. Up front, New Jersey has a balanced attack, as can be seen by three players tied for the team in lead in goals with 15: Brian Gionta, Patrik Elias and Jamie Langenbrunner. Seven Devils have at least 20 points, led by Elias, with 37.

The Devils had won three straight games, before losing to the Rangers in a shootout at home on Tuesday. Langenbrunner tied the game at two in the final five minutes of the game. In the shootout, it took eight rounds to decide the winner as Marcel Hossa beat Brodeur, while Henrik Lundqvist denied Travis Zajac to preserve the victory.

Chris King and Steve Mears have the call on Bloomberg Radio 1130 while Howie Rose and Billy Jaffe can be seen tonight on FSN NY 2.
