GAME PREVIEW
Islanders (19-19-3) at Rangers (22-17-4)

(7:00 p.m. ET, TV: FSN NY | Radio: Bloomberg 1130) The Islanders will try to stop their six-game skid when they seek their fourth win of the season against the cross-river rival Rangers.

Twice the Islanders have defeated the Rangers at Madison Square Garden, this year, and they will try for their fourth consecutive win at the Garden, dating back to last season.

The Islanders used four goals from Viktor Kozlov to take down the Blueshirts in the first meeting of the season on December 3 for a 7-4 win. Just 16 days later, the Islanders were back at the Garden, this time getting help from Jason Blake's hat trick for a 4-3 win.

Their most recent meeting, on December 26 at the Nassau Coliseum, was the tightest of the three games. The Islanders came out flying, hitting every Ranger in sight. Goals by Arron Asham and Jason Blake were all Rick DiPietro needed to record a shutout, stopping all 28 Rangers shots.

Since then, the Islanders have not won, while the Rangers turned things around, and are currently on a five-game winning streak. After losing to the Ottawa Senators on the December 28, the Rangers proceeded to earn victories against Washington, New Jersey, Philadelphia and, most recently, Montreal.

Rangers defenseman Marek Malik scored the game-winner with 6:05 remaining in Saturday's 4-3 win against Montreal. Matt Cullen added two goals and Martin Straka tallied a goal and an assist to move within three points of team point leader, Jaromir Jagr. The Czech captain is tied for fourth in the league with 54 points.

Meanwhile, Blake's 26 goals are tied for sixth in the league with four other players, including the Rangers' Brendan Shanahan, who leads his team in goals. Straka is one behind with 22.

Islanders head coach Ted Nolan indicated that he will mix up the lines to help stir the offense that has been lacking during the six-game losing streak. Richard Park will join Alexei Yashin and Blake on the top line, while Arron Asham will see time with Miroslav Satan and Kozlov.

The only line expected to stay intact is the Andy Hilbert-Mike Sillinger-Trent Hunter line that has put up points in each of the past three games.

"That's one of the best so-called third lines in the league,Â? said Nolan. "They do everything that is asked of them. They shut down the opposition's big lines and contribute offensively. They're a good combination right now and working extremely well.Â?

Chris King and Steve Mears have the call on Bloomberg Radio 1130, while Howie Rose and Billy Jaffe can be seen tonight on FSN NY.
