GAME PREVIEW
Islanders (20-19-3) at Boston (20-17-3)

(7:00 p.m. ET, TV: FSN NY | Radio: Bloomberg 1130) The Islanders will try to build on their most recent win against the Rangers as they head to Boston to take on the Bruins at the TD Banknorth Garden.

It took a team effort to break out of the longest slump of the season for the Islanders, who defeated the Rangers at Madison Square Garden 5-3 on Tuesday. It was the fourth time in four meetings this season that the Islanders triumphed over their cross-river rivals.

Mike Sillinger chipped in with two goals, while Miroslav Satan, Brendan Witt and Viktor Kozlov also tallied goals. Sean Hill and Randy Robitaille both assisted on two goals. Those were Robitaille's first two points as an Islander.

Tonight, the Islanders will try to keep the momentum going against a Bruins team that has been struggling. Boston has lost four of their last five games, and some of them by wide margins. They were shutout on December 30, 5-0, by Nashville and were embarrassed at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs on January 4 by the score of 10-2. They rebounded with a win against Philadelphia, but followed that up with a loss to Ottawa on Tuesday.

The Bruins had high hopes coming into the season after acquiring defenseman Zdeno Chara and forward Marc Savard. Chara is leading the team's defense in points, but he is a disappointing -7 through 40 games. Savard has shined in his first season with the Bruins, leading the team in points with 52 and assists with 38.

Patrice Bergeron has also contributed offensively, currently second on the team with 44 points. Veteran Glen Murray is pacing the team in goals with 20.

Between the pipes, Tim Thomas has seen a majority of the time, sporting a record of 18-11-3, which is better than expected considering his poor numbers: a goals against average of 3.27 and a save percentage a shade over .900.

One thing going right for the Bruins is their power play, which has converted at a rate of 20.2%, good for fourth in the league. Savard, Bergeron and Murray are tied for the team lead with eight power play goals, while Savard leads the team with 27 man-advantage points.

This is the second of four meetings between the Islanders and Bruins. The Islanders defeated the Bruins in the home opener at the Nassau Coliseum by the score of 4-1 back on October 14.

Chris King and Steve Mears have the call on Bloomberg Radio 1130, while Howie Rose and Billy Jaffe can be seen tonight on FSN NY.
