BATES OUT FOR TOMORROW
The Islanders will be without forward Shawn Bates for at least tomorrow night at Atlanta as they prepare to start a three-game trip versus the Thrashers. Center Frans Nielsen will make his third appearance in the Islanders' lineup after being recalled from Bridgeport on an emergency basis on Wednesday.
"We'll certainly miss Shawn in the lineup, he was really coming around recently," said Islanders head coach Ted Nolan. "We've seen what Frans can do and we expect him to fit in nicely again."
Bates is out with a lower-body injury and is day-to-day. This season, Bates has four goals, six assists and ten points in 48 games and is tied for second on the team with a +13 plus/minus rating.
Nielsen joins the Islanders for the second time this year, having played in two games for the Islanders earlier this season January 6 against Carolina and January 9 against the NY Rangers. He is third on the Sound Tigers in points with 31 and earlier in the year tied a Sound Tigers record by recording points in 12 consecutive games. He is the second Danish-born and raised player to compete in an NHL game.
Following the team's game tomorrow in Atlanta, the Islanders travel to Montreal for a Saturday afternoon matinee and then play in Washington, DC Sunday afternoon.
