GAME PREVIEW
Islanders (26-22-7) at Boston (24-25-4)

(7:00 p.m. ET, TV: FSN NY | Radio: Bloomberg 1130) The Islanders will try to get back on the winning track when they travel north to the city of Boston to take on the Bruins at the TD Banknorth Garden.

It had been nearly a month since the Islanders had lost in regulation, when they were defeated at the Continental Airlines Arena Tuesday night by the New Jersey Devils 2-0. But the Islanders have shown resilience after coming off disappointing losses and will try to rebound against a Bruins team they've had success against this season.

If you can remember back to October 14, the Islanders took care of business in their home opener, taking down the visiting Bruins 4-1 behind two Jason Blake goals. They next played Boston on January 11 at the TD Banknorth Garden, where they found themselves down three times in the third period. But power play goals by Tom Poti and Viktor Kozlov sent the game in overtime where Rick DiPietro worked his magic stopping Glen Murray, who appeared to have a wide open net. DiPietro was stellar in the shootout, while Blake notched the eventual game-winner.

Since that win, the Islanders have shown increased resolve, especially in the third period, completing third-period, come-from-behind wins against Buffalo and Montreal.

Despite the Islanders' run of eight straight games where they registered a point, they're just behind the playoff pack. The Islanders currently sit in tenth place with 59 points, one point behind ninth place Toronto and trailing eighth place Tampa Bay by three points.

The Bruins find themselves in 13th place with 52 points. Unlike the Islanders, who went on a productive run, the Bruins performed dismally in January going 3-9-1 in the month. They have faired better in February, playing .500 hockey with wins over Carolina and Washington. Most recently, the Bruins dropped a re-match game to the Hurricanes 4-2 in Boston on Thursday.

It's no surprise that the Bruins are near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. They're in the bottom third of the league in goals for, and near the bottom in goals against. During their rough patch in January, they gave up at least five goals in a game seven times.

Tim Thomas has taken the reigns as the starting goalie, but his performances recently in goal have been rocky.

The Islanders still have to worry about Patrice Bergeron and Marc Savard up front as well as Zdeno Chara's 100-plus MPH slapshots from the point.

Chris King and Steve Mears have the call on Bloomberg Radio 1130, while Howie Rose and Billy Jaffe can be seen tonight on FSN NY.
