50 WORDS OR LESS: Favorite game of the first half

As predicted, all four wins against the Rangers were high on many people's lists. Also mentioned frequently was the Islanders' 2-1 overtime loss to the Devils on January 13. The Islanders might have lost, but when Miroslav Satan tied the game in the final second, the Nassau Coliseum was absolutely rockin'. Here are just a few of the dozens of responses we received for this edition of "50 Words or Less."

My favorite game during the first half of the season has to be the 4-0-victory game against Columbus. I came home for the holidays during that time. I call Phoenix, Arizona my home now and so coming back to a shutout win was something special for me.

Seven tenths of a second
Miroslav Satan
Seven tenths of a second
He was our man
Seven tenths of a second
Scoring the tying goal
Seven tenths
He persevered in his soul
Seven tenths
Although we lost in OT
Seven tenths of a second
That night was special for me.

My favorite game was on December 26th against our rivals, the New York Rangers. The Islanders won 2-0 and I think they played a great game. The islanders were roughing the Rangers up and were playing very physical. Jason Blake had an unbelievable goal that led the islanders to win.

I must say the only ones I haven't liked are the ones that we lose, but you can't win them all. My favorite, favorite one has to be our first game against the rangers, because it has set and amazing tone for all the other Islanders, Rangers games we play!

My favorite game of the season so far was against Atlanta on December 16th. In this game the Islanders were fearless and they destroyed the Thrashers which is the top team in the Southeast division. This game showed that the Islanders brought up their game greatly for the 06-07 season.

It has to be the Devils game on 13th. Great goaltending by both goalies. An outstanding finish to the game, Miro scoring with .7 seconds left. The Coliseum went nuts. I've never heard it that loud before. Even though they lost it was by far the most exciting game!

Chris Bohemia

Sports Illustrated ranked the Islanders LAST in the Eastern Conference in their Pre-Season Review. My favorite first half moment was when the Islanders were in FIRST place. Let's hope we can build up the confidence again and climb back on top! Let's Go Islanders!

Without a doubt, the 7-4 victory over the Rangers on December 3rd to take over 1st place.

It has to be the game were there two hat tricks in one game, one from each team. That was the best. Because not only did we beat them in on there home ice, but one of ours got a tricky.

Islanders @ Sharks... Even though they lost, it was awesome to see them play well and gain respect from the San Jose fans (especially DiPi).  It was also my first Isles game while on the west coast.

My favorite game of the first half of the season was definitely Ricky's shutout against the Rangers. Nothing beats a shutout against the arch rival Rangers.  It was my favorite because I have never seen the Islanders shutout the Rangers before.
West Islip, New York

It has to be the game in Boston that they won 5-4 in the shootout. Right away we go down 2-0.  Then, the Isles start coming back in the 2nd period. It was inevitable that the Isles would win.  And they did just that in the shootout.

The home opener against Boston was my favorite, after a disappointing road start the Isles lit the old barn up with an exciting hard working game. Definitely the best home opener in years, with playoff type atmosphere.

Definitely had to be the 22nd November game, against Carolina!! Not only did I propose to my girlfriend on the scoreboard at the game, but, the Isles held the Canes to ONE shot on net in the first, and, beat the CANES!!!

Bob Bourne Night.  It was great to honor one of the Stanley Cup team members who "quietly" made such a difference.  In much the same way in that night's game against the Capitals, Radek Martinek "quietly" displayed that he has arrived as a force amongst our defensemen.
