GAME PREVIEW
Islanders (28-22-8) vs. New Jersey (35-17-6)

(7:00 p.m. ET, TV: MSG | Radio: Bloomberg 1130) The post-season picture isn't becoming any clearer as the Islanders try to continue to climb the playoff ladder tonight against the New Jersey Devils at the Nassau Coliseum.

With their 4-1 win against the Boston Bruins on Thursday, the Islanders have jumped into the playoff mix. They sit in the eighth spot with 64 points along with Montreal and Toronto. Seventh-place Carolina is just ahead with 65 points.

There are at least two games besides the Islanders whose results you'll be interested in seeing tonight. Edmonton takes on Toronto at the Air Canada Centre, while Carolina travels to Montreal to take on the Canadiens.

The latest Islanders game was a microcosm of their recent successful stretch that has seen them earn points in 11 of 12 games. Going into the third period, the teams were deadlocked, but again the Islanders proved their resilience in the third period and scored three unanswered goals to secure the win. Mike Sillinger, who earlier in the game took over the team lead in assists, broke the tie 10:56 into the final frame. Randy Robitaille added a couple of insurance goals, including an empty-netter.

Rick DiPietro was once again stellar in goal stopping 24 of 25 shots. The Islanders are now 7-1-4 in their last 12 games.

It's game two of the Islanders' seven-game home stand when they play the Devils for the second time in just over a week. The last time these two teams met, the Devils came away with a 2-0 win at the Continental Airlines Arena.

Since their victory over the Islanders, New Jersey has gone 1-2-0, losing games to Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh, while helping the Islanders by defeating Montreal. Their most recent game was a 5-4 loss to Sidney Crosby's Penguins last night. Crosby earned a goal and an assist, but it was unlikely hero, Jarkko Ruutu that netted two goals, including the game-winner.

The Devils were without two key players last game -- defenseman Colin White (upper body) and leading goal scorer Brian Gionta (groin).

After two sub-par performances in the last three games, the big question is will Martin Brodeur start his 29th game in a row. Brodeur is second in the lead with a 2.08 goals against average, third in save percentage with a .924 and first with ten shutouts.

Chris King and Steve Mears have the call on Bloomberg Radio 1130, while Howie Rose and Billy Jaffe can be seen tonight on FSN NY.

For those of you not in the New York area, you can catch King and Mears' Bloomberg Radio simulcast on XM Satellite Radio, channel 209.
