RICK NAMED NHL 2ND STAR FOR FEBRUARY
Zetterberg named first star, Brodeur No. 3

Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro was named star No. 2 in the NHL for the month of February.

When told the news, Islanders head coach Ted Nolan had a big smile and said, "That's well-deserved. Ricky was huge for us all month."

Detroit's Henrik Zetterberg was named the First Star, while Devils netminder Martin Brodeur was voted Third Star.

FIRST STAR -- HENRIK ZETTERBERG, LW, DETROIT RED WINGS

Zetterberg led all NHL scorers in February, tallying 25 points (13 goals, 12 assists) in 11 games. He scored five game-winning goals and posted a +9 rating as the Red Wings went 8-2-2 and reached the 40-victory mark for the ninth consecutive season (40-16-8). Playing alongside Pavel Datsyuk and Tomas Holmstrom, Zetterberg had multiple points in seven contests, highlighted by three, four-point games. He tallied one goal and three assists in a 5-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues Feb. 2, recorded two goals and two assists in a 7-4 win over the Calgary Flames Feb. 11 and recorded three goals and one assist in a 4-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes Feb. 17. Zetterberg leads the Red Wings in points (68), goals (33) and shots (224), and leads the NHL with 10 game-winning goals.


SECOND STAR -- RICK DiPIETRO, G, NEW YORK ISLANDERS

DiPietro made a career-high 12 consecutive starts and posted an 8-2-2 record, 2.19 goals-against average, .926 save percentage and one shutout as the Islanders (32-23-8, 72 points) moved up to seventh place in the Eastern Conference playoff race. DiPietro allowed two goals or fewer in nine games, including a 27-save shutout in a 2-0 victory over Philadelphia Feb. 7. He matched a season high with 39 saves in a 3-2 shootout victory at Toronto Feb. 13 and stopped 27 of 29 shots and all three shootout attempts in a 3-2 home win over the Maple Leafs Feb. 22. Playing in his fifth NHL season, all with the Islanders, DiPietro has posted a 28-18-5 record with a 2.66 goals-against average, .914 save percentage and five shutouts in 52 games.


THIRD STAR -- MARTIN BRODEUR, G, NEW JERSEY DEVILS

Brodeur posted a 9-3-0 record with a 2.22 goals-against average, .919 save percentage and three shutouts in 12 games as the Devils (40-18-6, 86 points) moved within three points of the Eastern Conference-leading Buffalo Sabres. Brodeur allowed two goals or fewer in eight games, including a 30-save shutout against the New York Rangers Feb. 8. He made 26 saves in blanking the New York Islanders 2-0 Feb. 17 and recorded his League-leading 12th shutout of the season by making 31 saves in a 1-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins Feb. 27. Brodeur has posted a 39-17-5 record with a 2.06 goals-against average, .926 save percentage and 12 shutouts in 61 games, leading NHL goaltenders in victories and shutouts and ranking second in goal-against average and save percentage.

Brodeur needs two shutouts to tie George Hainsworth (94) for second place on the all-time list and is one victory from extending his NHL record with a sixth 40-win season.
