RUGGIERO AND THE US EARN SILVER

Islanders Director of Project Hope, Angela Ruggiero, and the United States women's national team earned the silver medal for the ninth time in 11 years at the IIHF Women's World Championship, Tuesday night in Winnipeg. Canada earned the gold medal with a 5-1 victory over the United States.

Ruggiero along with teammates Krissy Wendell and Natalie Darwitz, were named to the tournament's All-Star Team. Ruggiero finished the tournament with one goal, three assists and a +5 rating in five games.

Team USA finished the tournament 3-2, having lost their only contests to Canada by the score of 5-4 in a shootout and 5-1 in the final. Ruggiero's squad was the defending world champion, winning its first-ever gold medal at the event on April 9, 2005, via a 1-0 shootout victory over Canada.

For those in the US who didn't catch the game live on TSN Tuesday night, the game will be aired on ESPNU as a tape delay starting on Wednesday, April 11. The dates and times are as follows (all times are EDT): April 11 at 4:30 p.m., April 12 at 7:30 p.m. and April 17 at 8 p.m.

Project Hope is dedicated to providing young Chinese athletes with access to educational opportunities. Founded by Islanders owner Charles Wang, the program has also introduced the sport of hockey to countless Chinese youths with the goal of expanding to other nations worldwide.
