WITT, NOLAN PRAISE RBK EDGE JERSEYS\r\n
Brendan Witt takes part in unique Floridian photo op

With his surfboard in hand, Brendan Witt posed for his wife Salima, who took snapshots of her husband in the Islanders’ new jersey last week. In a very non-hockey setting, Witt strolled along the beach of his home in Jupiter, Florida modeling the Rbk Edge jersey set for its debut during the Islanders’ exhibition schedule in September.

“I’d heard a lot about the jerseys and saw some prototypes late in the season,” said Witt, “but I got my first good look at it when the team sent me the new sweaters so I could do a photo op. I have to say, I really like them. They’re different and original without being too far ‘out there.’ I know the guys on our team really like them. I have a feeling they’re going to be very popular with the fans, too.”

Head coach Ted Nolan also weighed in on the slick new Rbk Edge design.

“One of the many things I’ve learned in the game is you have to keep moving forward, which is why I like the new style jerseys,” said Nolan. “The NHL and Reebok are trying something innovative that the players and just as importantly the fans will like. But I also appreciate that we kept the integrity of the jersey, especially the Islanders crest. To me, it’s the best of the old and the new.”

Players like Jeff Tambellini and Chris Campoli also gave positive feedback on the new designs of the sweaters.

“I like the new look of the jersey,” said Tambellini. “They kept some of the traditional features, but also added a new look. I’ve heard they’re lighter, which is better for the players. During longer games and at hotter rinks, the lightness of the jerseys will definitely help.”

Added Campoli: “I think they’re even nicer than the old ones, and I loved them. I like the layout with the number on the chest.”

The entire team will get their first opportunity to wear the jerseys in a game setting when they take on the Atlanta Thrashers on September 17 in North Bay, Ontario during the Islanders’ first exhibition game.
