Garth, Ted and Bossy talk shop with Long Island business and community leaders

Before the hustle and bustle of the Islanders' ticket selling began upstairs at the Nassau Coliseum box office, Garth Snow, Ted Nolan, Mike Bossy along with Islanders Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Operations Chris Dey were in a conference room discussing business with local sponsors and business owners.

Call it an exchange of ideas or a meet-and-greet session, but both parties agreed it was a productive morning.

"There's more to hockey than just the on-ice performance," said Snow. "It's important to be in touch with our sponsors and fans off the ice so that we get a better idea of what the community wants from us. It was an informative discussion, which we hope to continue throughout the year."

Prior to any talk of business, the 30-plus business leaders in attendance listened to Snow, Nolan and Bossy discuss the upcoming season. Snow talked about many of the new players who have arrived to Long Island over the summer, including new captain Bill Guerin.

"He's the type of player who displays great character and builds a great atmosphere in the locker," said Snow. "He's created a positive attitude on every team he's played for."

Nolan chose to discuss what fans can look forward to from the 2007-08 edition of the Islanders.

"We're really trying to recapture what the Islanders teams had during the 1980s," said Nolan. "We want this to be a team people are proud of. This organization is creating an atmosphere where the team and the community are united."

And Bossy noted how excited he was for the start of the upcoming season as he looked on from behind the scenes.

"As an organization we're eagerly anticipating the start of the season," said Bossy. "I've been here a number of years and like what I see from Ted's team. They're going to battle every game right from the drop of the puck."

Following a delicious breakfast, fruit and pastries, the two parties got to work sharing their thoughts. There was banter back and forth, all of it positive and constructive. Topics included how Long Island business leaders can help the Islanders, an Islanders business referral program, the team's efforts in the community and what the franshise can do to increase its profile in the media.

"It was great to meet people and hear about the Islanders' plans for the future," said Talon Mailing & Marketing, Inc. owner Michael Borkan, who attended the event with his son Matthew. "It was nice to hear feedback from both sides of the table."
