Islanders receive letters of heartfelt thanks from the Moncton and North Bay communities

Training camp in Canada is not even over and the Islanders have already made a significant impact on the communities they have visited. has received several letters from the people of Moncton, New Brunswick and North Bay, Ontario about the positive effect the team’s visits there have had. Here’s a trio of letters we received this week. We think they say a lot about our players and our head coach.

I just want to let you know how impressed I was as a father to see your team come over and play in a small place in Northern Ontario.

We stayed until the players from both teams left on the bus.  But what really impressed me is the number of players from your team who took the time to meet with the kids for an autograph and a photo session.  I would say probably 90% of the kids who were there at the end wouldn't have a chance to go and watch a hockey game in Toronto or Ottawa (which are the nearest place for an NHL team) due to distance but mainly due to $$$$. Finally, what I have never seen (and I happen to visit few NHL games in Ontario and Quebec and we wait until the players leave as my children try to shake hands), your head coach, Mr. Nolan, who takes the time himself to talk to the kids and signs autographs.

Do you know what this does to a kid?  The kid will support your team regardless if you are winning or losing; regardless if you are Canadian or American just because they shook hand with one important guy which makes the whole difference in within their world.  It did not matter if the team won last night or not.

Kudos to Mr. Nolan and his team for the kind gestures they did. Thank you to NHL to allow such an event to take place in smaller community.

My name is Andrew, I am writing this e-mail to show my appreciation to the Islanders organization for their enthusiastic participation in Hockeyville here in North Bay, Ontario. My family had the best night out that you could imagine. I have been to many NHL games in the past but never like this. To see the players so close up in a small arena like Memorial Gardens Arena is an experience that brings out the best in hockey. I know that last night’s game will be something that they will not soon forget. THANK YOU

The Islanders looked like they have got a talented group of young players. I think the islanders will make a run at the cup. Have a great year.

Mr. Nolan:

I want to sincerely thank you and the Islanders organization for the heartfelt visit and speech you gave to the Harrison Trimble High School students here in Moncton on September 19th.  In addition, inviting the Trimble hockey team as guests to the exhibition game was also a class act.

My son was classmates and good friends with all four boys and he and the school have been going through a rough few weeks and having the public out pouring and emotional support has indeed helped them move on.  Though they will never forget their friends, receiving messages of strength and guidance, such as your speech, does truly help them realize that life (though what seems sometimes unfair) does move on.

Thank you and the Islanders organization for being one class act.
