NYI GIVE BACK TO LONG ISLAND\'S BRAVEST

Burn centers and fire stations receive checks on behalf of the Islanders and Stephen Siller Foundation

As much as Firefighter Appreciation Night was about honoring the brave servicemen and women of the Long Island Fire Department, it was also about supporting those affected by fires. A packed house at the Nassau Coliseum came out to support their local fire departments, who, day in and day out, volunteer their services to protect the community.

Prior to the faceoff of Saturday's exciting 4-3 overtime win against the New Jersey Devils, Paul Napoli of the Nassau County Firefighters Burn Center Foundation, Phil Yankovich of the Burn Clinic at Stony Brook University Medical Center, Jim Henry of the New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation, Chief Richard Tousey of the Plainview, Chief John O'Brien of the East Meadow Fire Departments and Brian Farrell of the Terry Farrell Fund were presented checks by GM Garth Snow, Bill Guerin, Brendan Witt and Mike Sillinger on behalf of the Islanders as continuing celebration of Firefighter Appreciation Night.

A portion of the proceeds from Saturday's ticket sales and money raised from last year's Stephen Siller Foundation Night went to the burn centers and fire stations in support of Long Island's Bravest. The grand total amounted to $43,500, with $23,000 of the contributions earned from tonight's ticket sales.

The East Meadow and Plainview Fire Departments, as well as the Terry Farrell Fund generously provided the Islanders and its fans with authentic fire trucks and equipment for Firefighter Appreciation Day, further enhancing the game experience for those in attendance.

Russ Siller represented the Stephen Siller FDNY "Let us do good" Foundation, which decided to generously give the money raised from last year's fundraiser to the local burn centers. The Islanders helped raised the money last season on a night dedicated to Stephen Siller, who tragically passed away on September 11, 2001 after heroically running from the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the World Trade Center to save lives, while on his day off.
