Your stop for quick stats on the Islanders the morning after each game.

STANDINGS: Following last night’s 3-2 shootout victory over the Ottawa Senators, the Islanders move to within one point of the second-place New York Rangers in the Atlantic Division. The Islanders enter tonight’s game versus the Blueshirts with a 13-8-1 record for 27 points in 22 games. The Islanders have two games in hand over both the Rangers and the Philadelphia Flyers, who lead the Atlantic with 30 points.

Having played in fewer games than any other team in the Eastern Conference aside from Boston (also 22 games played), the Islanders are in sixth place in the playoff race.

SHOOTOUT!!!: Last night was the first time the Islanders finished a game in the shootout this season. They were one of three teams not to have had a game decided in either regulation or overtime before last night.

MAKING A KILLING:  The Islanders' penalty kill now ranks sixth in the NHL with an 86.7 percent success rate. Last night versus Ottawa, the Islanders defended off five of six Senators chances with the man advantage. On the road, the team kills off 87.2 percent of the opposition's power plays, while at home, they are at 86.4 percent.

RICK'S RANK: With his win last night, Rick DiPietro now ranks tied for second in the NHL with 12 victories in net. He is also one of five NHL goaltenders with two assists on the offensive side.  Rick has nine assist in the NHL career.

JO'S BIG SHOT:  Josef Vasicek leads the Islanders' scoring attack with nine goals. Jo's netted those goals by only taking 30 shots. That gives the first-year Islander a 30.0 shooting percentage, which is good for second best in the NHL.

GETTING IN THE WAY: Brendan Witt leads the team and is fifth in the NHL in blocked shots with 61. Last season, he finished fifth the league with a total of 207.
