Your stop for quick stats on the Islanders the morning after each game.
STANDINGS: Today, the Islanders have a record of 14-12-2 for 30 points after 28 games. In their last ten games, the Islanders have gone 3-5-2. They are currently two points behind the three-way tie for second place in the Atlantic Division, which comprise of Philadelphia, New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins. The Islanders are four points behind the New Jersey Devils for first place in the division.
Overall in the Eastern Conference, the Islanders currently sit two points out of the playoff field, but they are also just two points out of the four-way tie for fifth in the conference with Philadelphia, New York Rangers, Montreal and Pittsburgh. They are three points behind the fourth place Boston Bruins.

HUNTING DOWN OPPONENTS: Trent Hunter plays a mean game. The Red Deer, AB native currently ranks fourth in the NHL with 91 hits. Last season, he finished fifth in the NHL and second on the Islanders with 246 hits.
A PRO AT FACEOFFS: Faceoff specialist Mike Sillinger is up to his old tricks again. The 17-year veteran continues to climb the NHL faceoff charts. Sillinger leads the Islanders and now ranks tied for eighth in the NHL with a 56.3 faceoff winning percentage. He has ranked in the top-15 among the top NHL faceoff leaders in the past six seasons.
I'LL TAKE IT: The Islanders are using Sillinger's faceoff prowess to good use. Sillinger ranks sixth in the NHL by taking 35.1 percent of the Islanders' faceoffs. Last season, Sillinger ranked fourth in the NHL with a 58.8 faceoff winning percentage.
JO'S BIG SHOT: Josef Vasicek co-leads the Islanders' scoring attack with nine goals. Jo's netted those goals by only taking 37 shots. That gives the first-year Islander a 24.3 shooting percentage, which is good for third best in the NHL.
GETTING IN THE WAY: Brendan Witt leads the team and is now tied for fifth in the NHL in blocked shots with 74. Last night in Tampa Bay, Witt blocked a game-high four shots. Last season, he finished fifth the league with a total of 207.
