THE NYI STAT PACK - WESTERN ROAD TRIP

NYI all-time record on road trips of five-or-more games, DP against West and more…

By Adam Baruch & Chris King

NYI ON THE ROAD, FIVE-OR-MORE

The Islanders are about to embark on a five-game, 11-day road trip which normally comes around once a season and occasionally twice. This year the Islanders head to Colorado on January 5 to face the Avalanche at 9:00 pm ET. From Colorado the Orange and Blue will make stops in Edmonton (January 7 – 9:00 pm), Vancouver (January 8 – 10:00 pm), Calgary (January 11 – 9:00 pm) and Ottawa (January 13 – 7:00 pm) before returning home to face the Montreal Canadiens on January 15. In total, the Islanders will travel an estimated 7,300 miles total. In franchise history, the Islanders have gone on 31 road trips of five-or-more games. The Orange and Blue have gone .500 or better in 13 of those trips, including five of the last seven dating back to 2001-02. Below is a closer look at the past seven road trips of five-or-more games:

NYI, DIPIETRO VERSUS WESTERN CONFERENCE

About to begin a five-game road trip that will feature stops in four Western Conference cities, the Islanders should be up for the challenge. The Orange and Blue have had plenty of recent success against the entire Western Conference. In 2006-07, the Islanders were 4-3-3 in 10 games vs. the West and in 2005-06 they went 6-3-1. Combined, the Islanders are 11-6-5 in their last 22 games against the Western Conference. Plenty of the recent success stems from solid play in net. Rick DiPietro approaches the road trip with a 20-12-3 record in 39 career games vs. the West. DiPietro was 3-3-0 in 2006-07 and 6-2-0 in 2005-06 against the West.
